Public hearings set to discuss Medicaid expansion, Healthy Indiana Plan

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA)will hold a pair of public meetings on the administration’s proposal to extend the state’s Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) through 2016 as opposed to expanding Medicaid as outlined in the Affordable Care Act. The meetings come as part of transparency guidelines set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for any waiver petitions.

The hearings come on the heels of an exchange between Statehouse Democrats and the governor over an apparent oversight by the administration to meet appropriate deadlines for a waiver application. Democrats continue to push for an extension of health care coverage in Indiana, citing the potential for 30,000 new jobs, the injection of billions of dollars into local communities and the extension of health care services to an estimated 400,000 more Hoosiers.
